Championship Sunday Shakeups: Texas Upsets South Carolina, UConn & UCLA Roll

The day was highlighted by No. 4 Texas knocking off No. 3 South Carolina, dominant performances from UConn and UCLA, and several standout individual performances across mid-major conferences.

Longhorns Make Statement vs South Carolina

One of the biggest results of the day came as Texas defeated South Carolina 78–61, sending a strong message heading into the NCAA Tournament.

Texas controlled the tempo throughout the game and leaned on their offensive balance. Madison Booker led the Longhorns with 18 points, helping Texas pull away late against the defending national powerhouse.

South Carolina was paced by Joyce Edwards with 13 points, but the Gamecocks struggled to find offensive rhythm against Texas’ defensive pressure.

UConn Dominates Creighton

Top-ranked UConn delivered one of the most dominant performances of the day, defeating Creighton 100–51.

Freshman star Sarah Strong led the Huskies with 23 points, showcasing the inside-outside skill set that has made her one of the nation’s most impactful young players.

Creighton was led by Kennedy Townsend, who finished with 13 points.

UCLA Overpowers Iowa

No. 2 UCLA also made a statement with a 96–45 victory over No. 9 Iowa.

The Bruins’ defense suffocated Iowa’s offense while controlling the boards and transition game. Gianna Kneepkens led UCLA with 19 points, while Ava Heiden paced Iowa with 15 points.

Duke Edges Louisville in Overtime

In one of the most competitive games of the day, No. 13 Duke defeated No. 12 Louisville 70–65 in overtime.

Taina Mair stepped up in the extra period and finished with 19 points for Duke. Louisville kept the game tight behind Imari Berry’s 18-point performance, but Duke’s execution down the stretch proved decisive.

West Virginia Outlasts TCU

In another ranked matchup, No. 15 West Virginia defeated No. 10 TCU 62–53.

Jordan Harrison led West Virginia with 21 points, while TCU star Olivia Miles scored 17 points in the loss.
